Volvo Cars is one of the world’s best-known premium automotive brands, serving customers in over 100 countries. Founded in 1927 in Gothenburg, Sweden, the company has expanded production onto three continents in the near century of its existence. Being close to its customers reduces operational risk, as well as the company’s environmental footprint, and allows Volvo to form long-term relationships on an individual basis. Volvo has R&D and design centres in Gothenburg, Shanghai, and Camarillo.
“Cars used to be the symbol of personal freedom,” says a company spokesperson. “Owning a car meant that you had the means to be independently mobile – that you owned not just a vehicle, but choice as well. Nothing of that has changed, but the world we live in has. The earth, our cities, and our everyday lives are under increased pressure. At Volvo, we’ve made it our mission to take back the feeling of freedom and let the car be the enabler of a richer life.”
Volvo Car Australia has focused on its culture through its people plan (policies, benefits, wellbeing framework, and initiatives), which allows its people to be their best selves. They have benchmarked their culture externally through Family Inclusive Workplace certifications and Employer of Choice awards.

In support of who they are and what they stand for, Volvo Car Australia announced in November 2022 that its vehicles would be fully electric by 2026 – embarking on an exciting transformation towards a sustainable future. It is the first major luxury car brand to commit to a hybrid or fully electric powertrain for all its models.
Every new Volvo car launched from 2019 onwards has had and will have an electric motor. The 2020 introduction of the XC40 Recharge, their first-ever fully electric car, was the next step towards electrifying their range. It represented a true milestone for Volvo and is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos. Over the next five years, the company will launch a new fully electric model every year.
Volvo Car Australia also believes in delivering an exceptional experience to its clients. “We take pride in who we are, and we treat people accordingly,” says Ribarovski. “Respect is paramount. A sense of adventure backs our pioneering spirit. We are people-focused and embrace honesty, transparency, respect, empowerment, and authenticity."
“We are curious, collaborative, and courageous in working together on common goals. Through words and deeds, we make the difference and bring positive change,” says Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars president and CEO.
