Profile
As a talent acquisition specialist at the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), Laura Abrantes is a rising leader redefining recruitment within the energy and skilled trades sector. Since joining ESA in April 2025, she has delivered a transformative impact – modernizing talent practices, strengthening union partnerships, and embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into every stage of the hiring process.
Abrantes was instrumental in the successful implementation of ESA’s new Applicant Tracking System, enhancing automation, reporting accuracy, and compliance within a complex, unionized environment. She redesigned interview frameworks to promote fairness and values alignment, introduced workforce dashboards linking data to business outcomes, and helped launch a pre-apprenticeship partnership with IBEW Local 353 to expand opportunities for women and Indigenous peoples entering the trades.
With a foundation from Bell’s Leadership Development Program, Abrantes brings strategic business acumen and operational awareness to every initiative. Her ability to bridge people strategy and frontline performance has elevated talent acquisition into a critical business driver. Respected for her integrity, professionalism, and collaborative approach, she exemplifies the next generation of HR leadership — one that unites innovation, inclusion, and measurable business value.
