Profile
“My career approach has always been to continue learning, being challenged, to be curious and to try different things. I’ve long realised that linear career paths in a single field are the exception and not the rule”
Richard Parker,
The Warehouse Group
As chief people officer at the Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC), Roz Urbahn has led multiple process improvements and focused on employee wellbeing and return-to-work programs in the post-pandemic workplace. She also sponsored the D&I Committee initiatives and introduced an innovation in the HR space by ensuring that LIC’s transformation program is sustainable. As a result, LIC saw a steady increase in its organisational health index, which reached 70 within three years and increased to 72 in the 2022 survey despite the incredible challenges of the last few years.
Roz leads the LIC people agenda with determination and does so in an inspiring way. She has built an excellent team around her and they are well recognised both internally and externally for the work that they deliver. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the LIC team was able to quickly adapt in part because of the excellent solutions created by Roz and the team. Roz showed strong proactive leadership during and post COVID, directly leading to the business delivering to its strategy and supporting performance targets to be well on track.
She has led significant changes with her team at LIC, from promoting flexible work practices, creating leadership development programmes and delivering an ever-growing wellbeing programme. Roz is sought after for her opinion in the HR industry and speaks at a variety of forums. Her passion to enable everyone to be successful can be felt by everyone she meets.
Wayne McNee, former LIC chief executive, stated: "Above all, it is Roz’s personal leadership approach that places her in the highest echelon of HR directors. She inspires higher performance, business collaboration, and encourages an inclusive environment – all done by role modelling authenticity.”

“My sole goal is to continue being challenged and excited about what I do, so I feel I am growing professionally. With that approach I have found great opportunities have come along – not always when I expected them, though”
Richard Parker,
The Warehouse Group
Subsequent to Fletcher Challenge, he held senior HR roles at Spark New Zealand, where he was involved with firstly the operational and then structural separation of its retail business from its network business, which transformed the NZ telecommunications industry, and then TVNZ, New Zealand’s national television broadcaster.
Richard has extensive experience in leading significant organisational transformation, including helping TWG become the first multi-brand retailer in the world to move to fully agile ways of working, which is all about driving better customer experience and faster speed of execution. He is also focused on growing TWG’s talent density, developing future agile leaders for TWG and New Zealand, and preparing all TWG employees for the future of work.
Ultimately, Richard is passionate about empowering TWG’s team members to support the Group’s vision of making sustainable living easy and affordable for everyone.
Looking forward, he says, “My sole goal is to continue being challenged and excited about what I do, so I feel I am growing professionally. With that approach I have found great opportunities have come along – not always when I expected them, though.”
Richard holds an LLB (Hons) and MPhil (Hons) from the University of Auckland.
